A Drama Series Inspired By Mandy Moore's Early Career Is In The Works

Premiere Of Disney's "Ralph Breaks The Internet" - Red Carpet

Mandy Moore made her dazzling return to the music world last month when she released her first song in 10 years, "When I Wasn't Watching," but she's looking towards the past for inspiration on a new TV show.

As Variety reports, ABC has ordered a pilot for a new drama series inspired by the 35-year-old's early music career. Currently titled 90's Pop Star, the project comes from writer and executive producer Amanda Lasher, with Moore set to executive produce alongside This Is Us showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger.

Variety describes the show premise as "a family from small town Florida must adapt to their extraordinary new reality when their teenage daughter goes from aspiring singer to pop superstar practically overnight."

Like the series' main character, Moore grew up in Florida and began her music career as a teenager. She released her first single "Candy" in 1999 and debut album So Real the same year, which received a platinum certification from the RIAA. She subsequently released five more records, her most recent being 2009's Amanda Leigh, and has been focusing on her acting career for the past decade, most famously starring in This Is Us.

Moore has been spending lots of time recording with her husband Taylor Goldsmith and plans to drop her seventh studio album next year.
